Nepal has been culturally practicing the cult witchdoctor traditions also known as Shamanism for many centuries. The purpose is twofold first to provide spiritual healing and secondly warding off any evil spirits that inflicts harm to the human body and mind such as long term illness and also on signs of panic attacks. In Nepal they are called “dhamis” or “jhankris” and wear accessories of bead and necklaces and bells hanging on the waist they have to perform puja and attend fasting on the caves. They chant their sacred mantras and can walk barefoot on burning coals also. When people in earlier days were deprived from hospital facilities they would visit or call upon Shamans and bring the sick people to ward off any illness and havoc from evil spirits and evil eyes. They also play drums to scare the evil energy and have gained the power from the god. They have to practice all the stages meticulously to become a shaman practitioner. Usually people who take up Shamanism in Nepal are ethnic Tamang, Magar, Rai, Limbu and Gurung people. You can see their world by taking a special tour in Nepal and experience the alternate medicine culture adopted by people of Nepal.
